Are Foxes Harmless? Should I Be Worried About Foxes With My Dog or Cat?
Generally, foxes try to avoid humans and are not looking for trouble, they are just looking for food. The only time that you should be concerned about a fox is if it has rabies or parasites. Having said that, if you have chicken coops or rabbit hutches you will want to protect those from foxes; those are food sources to a fox.
It is very unlikely that a fox will attack a dog or cat. Foxes will defend themselves only if they are attacked or cornered by another animal. Cats generally know better than to confront a fox, but if a mother cat is defending her kittens – there could be trouble. The same goes for a fox if she is protecting her kits. A fox protecting her offspring can be aggressive to humans and animals alike.
